West Ham United have named Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager and with that, Hammers hierarchy has reportedly given the ex-Man City boss bags full of money in order to spend during the summer transfer window.

And if a report in the Metro is anything to go by then Pellegrini is eyeing a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

Smalling had an inconsistent season with United last time around which saw him miss out on a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

And as per the report, West Ham United are planning to lure in Smalling by giving his assurance of a regular first-team role at the London Stadium.

Chris Smalling has just finished his ninth season with the Red Devils since moving to the club way back in 2010. But in all these years the English International has failed to carve out a niche for himself in the first eleven.

In the 2017-18 season, Smalling played just 29 games in the Premier League scoring 4 goals.

Man United manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he wants to bring in a couple of new signings during the summer and Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld is expected to be one of them.

Reports suggest that United have already made a bid for the Belgium International which has been rejected and but that hasn’t cooled their interest in Alderweireld.

If the centre-back does arrive from Spurs then Chris Smalling’s place in the team is sure to be in danger and West Ham United are hoping that they can capitalize in on this fear and bring him to the London Stadium.
