Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had contracted coronavirus a couple of weeks ago following which the Premier League chose to suspend all games.
The manager supposedly caught the virus during the Gunners’ Europa League game against Olympiacos where he met the owner of the Greek side who was also tested positive for COVID-19.
Following this, the club chose to send all their players into a mandatory 14 days self-isolation which was supposed to end tomorrow.
Now though, Arsenal have revealed that their manager Mikel Arteta has recovered from coronavirus but the players will not be asked to resume training anytime soon.
The club said in a statement: “Our men’s first-team players were scheduled to return to training on Tuesday (March 24) after completing 14-days isolation following Mikel Arteta’s positive diagnosis for the virus.
“As a result of the current situation, we are clear it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to ask players to come back at this time. Therefore our men’s first team, women and academy players are all remaining at home. “
Apart from this, the North London club also made it clear that they will be paying all their casual workers fully until the end of next month.
The club added: “We will continue to pay matchday and non-matchday casual workers on our payroll up to April 30, 2020.
“This gesture reflects our gratitude to them and our desire to ease their financial concerns during this challenging period.
“This will be reviewed once the relevant authorities have made a further decision on when football can resume. All football is currently suspended until at least April 30. ”
As of now, the matches are all suspended till the end of next month but most of the clubs are expected to call their players back to training after the end of this month – owing to the seriousness of the current pandemic of course.
