The Champions League and the Europa League matches for the current season will not be abandoned since most of the domestic leagues in Europe are expected to be wrapped up in time.

The Bundesliga has already restarted its matches while the La Liga and the Premier League are expected to be back sometime next month. And now Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin has said that the Champions League and the Europa League is likely to be played in August.

“We have an idea but we have to wait for the executive committee of UEFA to confirm the dates. I can say that the European season will be finished, if everything is as it is now, in August,” he said, as per Standard.

“As things look now, I’m sure… that we can finish the European season and this means UEFA competition. I think the majority of leagues will finish the season.

“The ones who will not, it’s their decision. But they will still have to play qualifiers if they want to participate in the European UEFA competition.

“Paris St Germain and Lyon… will have to organise (matches) in France, “If this is not possible, (they) will have to organise it at a neutral ground.

“If you cannot play in your country, then you have to organise it at a neutral ground… I don’t see the reason why French authorities would not allow them to organise a match without spectators, but let’s see. It’s out of my power.”

Enough time to finish the remaining Champions & Europa League matches?

There’s still a long time to go before the Spanish and the English top division play out their remaining matches which is why many people think, UEFA should not count their chickens before they hatch.

But Ceferin has made it clear that the remaining European matches cannot be played in September and October since they have to make preparations for the 2020-20 season as well.

And in a bid to wrap up the two tournaments as soon as possible, UEFA might look to make a few temporary adjustments to the formats of their games for the next season.

As per reports, UEFA might be planning to cut down the games in their qualifying rounds for the upcoming season so that the 2019-20 games can be finished without any significant hiccups.

Right now, UEFA seem to have plenty of time on the hands to finish the remaining matches in the Champions League as well as the Europa League but their assumptions will depend on how well the respective countries are able to conduct their domestic leagues.
