Chelsea suffered yet another defeat in the Premier League, this time losing 2-1 to Wolves at the Molineux on Tuesday evening.

The Blues took the lead in the second half through Olivier Giroud but goals from Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto ensured the home side managed to pick up their sixth win of the campaign.

The loss means Chelsea are now fifth on the league table and the likes of Everton and Manchester United have the chance of going above them before the start of the next matchweek.

So far, the Blues have dropped points in seven of their first 13 matches and according to Paul Scholes, the lack of experience in midfield is hindering Lampard’s hopes of challenging for the Premier League title.

“I just think there’s a little bit a lack of creativity on the pitch,” Scholes said on BT Sport, as reported.

“(N’Golo) Kante does what he does brilliantly well and he’s got two young players next to him in Mason Mount and Kai Havertz, who I think will be sensational players, but that’s why I don’t think they’ll win the league this year

“It’s a bit early for them. They’ll be up there, close to Manchester City and Liverpool I just don’t think they are that ready.

“But in a year’s time with a bit of experience, knowhow, bit more quality they’ll be up there challenging.”

Chelsea have spent heavily on Kai Havertz this summer but the German has turned out to be a disappointment so far. Hopefully, he can get things back into place soon enough but by the time he finds his feet, Chelsea’s push for the title could well and truly be over.

Lampard does have Jorginho at his disposal but with the Italian in the side, N’Golo Kante has to play further up the pitch meaning there’s no place left for someone like Mason Mount or Mateo Kovacic.

The Chelsea boss seems to put a lot of faith in young Mason Mount but his inexperience is clearly hurting the Blues during crunch situations.

The London side are still not out of the title race but if they constantly fail to close out games then Lampard will have no other option but to prepare for the 2021-22 season.
