Chelsea were beaten 3-0 at home by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday which basically means the Blues are on the verge of exiting the tournament.

Chelsea went into this match at the back of a fine win against Spurs in the Premier League which is why the manager did not want to make any changes to neither his first XI not the formation.

But this rigidness eventually proved to be the downfall for the Stamford Bridge outfit as Bayern tore them apart in the second half of the match.

And speaking as to why his former side looked so poor and ineffective against the German giants, Michael Ballack has claimed that Chelsea chose to sit back for most of the match and even when they had the ball, they did very little to cause Bayern and major problems.

But while speaking about the tactical errors, Ballack also chose to shower praises on one particular player.

“He [Mount] was a bit unlucky, he was doing one versus one against Davies,” Ballack told Chelsea TV, as quoted by Metro.

“He has phenomenal speed which you don’t just see in the Bundesliga but at international level, it’s outstanding.

“He had two or three good runs and maybe a little bit of an advantage but he got beaten really quick.

“But you also have to find different ways, that’s a learning process, next time he will position himself better, maybe they [the team] push up.

“Also it’s a learning in the group as a team about positioning on the pitch better.

“I thought most of the time they were too deep. Even if you play sometimes deep, it’s not a problem to have it under control, but you have to change rhythm as well but they couldn’t do it, they couldn’t create it.”
