Liverpool have officially become a force to reckon with under their German manager Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield outfit have been tipped to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

And all this has been possible because the Reds have one of the most formidable attacking line-ups in the whole of Europe.

While Mo Salah has been receiving all the accolades during the past season but those who follow Liverpool closely will agree in one breath that winger Sadio Mane is equally important to the team.

Sadio Mane joined Liverpool in 2016 from Southampton for £34 million on a five-year contract and since then the 26-year-old has become an integral part of the plans at Anfield.

But now the Senegal International has revealed that Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United had actually tried to sign him while he playing for RB Salzburg in Austria.

Talking to SuperSport, Sadio Mane has revealed that United had tried to sign him for £25 million during the Louis Van Gaal era but the winger rejected the move claiming that it was not the right move for him during that time and he chose to join Southampton instead.

Sadio Mane said: ‘I could not believe it, because even some club wanted me like Manchester.

‘The wrong team wanted me by the way — of course, United.

‘I spoke with Van Gaal and they even made an offer, but for me, it was not the right club and not the right moment.

‘But with this, it’s the right moment, the right coach and the right club.

‘Yeah I spoke with him and Salzburg asked for £25m, but with all respect, I was not that good for £25m and that’s why I didn’t go there.’

And it seems that Man United’s loss has turned out to be Liverpool’s gain as the winger has already scored 36 goals in just 76 games and has started this season in fine form – scoring in each of the opening three games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
