Premier League side Chelsea have shown a keen interest in signing Southampton FC keeper Fraser Forster who also happens to be on Celtic’s wishlist.

The 32-year-old spent the 2019-20 season out on loan at the Glasgow side and the club are keen to sign him on a permanent deal during the summer transfer window.

Up until now, Celtic were the clear frontrunners in bringing the shot-stopper on board but over the past few days, Frank Lampard has been keeping tabs on Fraser Forster, in hopes of signing him for the next season.

Kepa has done really poorly this season at the Bridge and the Blues manager wants to bring in a new keeper into his squad, more so with Willy Caballero coming to the end of his spell.

And now former England keeper Paul Robinson has claimed that Fraser Forster could choose to snub a move to Celtic this summer in hopes to earn more monetary benefits.

“When it comes to spending power and you talk about Celtic and Chelsea – there is no competition,” he told Football Insider.

“If it comes down to money Chelsea will win all day long.

“I do not see them buying him as a number one given where he has been, even though he has done very well at Celtic but I do not see him as Chelsea’s number one.

“Caballero is a good backup goalkeeper but he is 38 now. I just cannot see Forster going to Chelsea for any reason other than for financial reasons.”

Fraser Forster currently earns £70,000-a-week which is something the Bhoys cannot afford but at the same time, Chelsea will also not be too eager to offer him such high wages right after such a massive lockdown.

So in either of the two cases, the 32-year-old will have to take a pay cut in order to head out of Southampton but Chelsea, hands down, have the ability to pay him a much heftier paycheck next season.

Also, the Saints reportedly want around £10 million as transfer fee for Fraser Forster which should not be a problem at all for the Premier League side.
