Fraser Forster has been tipped to head back to Celtic FC on a permanent deal next season but now Premier League giants Chelsea are planning to make a move for him.

This development has been a major shock for Neil Lennon and his plans since the Bhoys, in no way can match up to the might of the London club. And if Lampard is serious about signing the Saints outcast, there’s very little Celtic can do.

And while some experts have claimed, Lennon should be shifting his focus to other keepers, Alan Hutton has suggested that Fraser Forster might just refuse to join Chelsea and commit his future to Celtic in the summer.

Hutton told Football Insider“It’s a difficult one. His career’s stuttered at Southampton, he’s got it back on track, he’s been unbelievable with Celtic so do you really want to go back to where you were as a number two as backup? I don’t think so.

“Obviously there’s a massive lure at Chelsea and he’ll probably be on the same money and things like that but as a player who wants to play football, it’s not the ideal situation.

“If I was him, I’d want to go to Celtic. The chance of winning more titles, being loved, being the regular in the first team.

“I do understand the Chelsea lure but I think it’s going to be difficult for him to go back to second fiddle.”

Will Fraser Forster snub a move to Chelsea?

What Hutton said is absolutely true but if Forster chooses a move to Chelsea, the player should be able to play in the Champions League which is a dream for every professional footballer.

Also, Southampton FC want £10 million for the sale of their unwanted keeper which is a really steep price for a club like Celtic.

Chelsea, on the other hand, will not mind spending that much money on a second-choice keeper for the 2020-21 season.

So the Saints will not mind sending Fraser Forster to either of the two clubs but we think the keeper will have to choose between regular playing-time and a potential spotlight.

At Celtic, he has been a regular feature during the 2019-20 season, playing in 28 Premiership matches before the league was suspended prematurely.
