Centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes has agreed to join Premier League side Arsenal despite heavy interest from the likes of Napoli and even domestic rivals Manchester United.
The defender will be signing a five-year deal with the North London club and speaking about his move to the Premier League, his agent, Guilherme Miranda has now revealed why Gabriel Magalhaes chose to join Arsenal and not Manchester United, despite the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season.
He told journalist Freddie Paxton, as reported by talkSPORT: “Arsenal was nowhere near the best proposal [money-wise].
“Gabriel chose them over more lucrative offers because Edu convinced us of the project.
“It’s 100 per cent because of Edu Gaspar and [Mikel] Arteta.”
Manchester United were confident about bringing in Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille and at one point it seemed like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be able to land the deal ahead of the Gunners.
But now it seems like the Man United hierarchy were not too serious about signing the 22-year-old centre-back which is why he chose to join the Emirates despite knowing the fact that he will miss out on Champions League football.
At Arsenal though, Gabriel Magalhaes will surely have to prove his worth to Mikel Arteta since the manager already has players like Pablo Mari, William Saliba, David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi amongst his ranks.
Gabriel Magalhaes is undoubtedly a fine addition to the Arsenal squad for the upcoming season but we will have to see if he makes an instant impact like Bruno Fernandes or does he take his own sweet time, much like Nicolas Pepe.
