Chelsea winger Willian is set to be a free agent this summer and Liverpool could be his next destination – as per the latest reports.
Willian has been a long-standing servant for the Blues but it looks like the player will not be signing a new deal at the club and Lampard will allow him to leave as a free agent.
And despite being linked with clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, it looks like he could be playing for the Anfield outfit next season.
Willian has made it clear that he wishes to remain in the English Premier League next season, and as per the report, the player has already entered negotiations with Liverpool and the Anfield outfit is hoping he will agree to a deal.
But many people have been confused with this transfer news since Liverpool already have someone like Mo Salah who operates down the right flank so why would Jurgen Klopp look to bring in someone like Willian who is 31 years old.
Why Klopp wants to sign Willian?
Well, it looks like Willian is not an alternative to Mo Salah but will act as the backup to the Egyptian since Xherdan Shaqiri is expected to leave in the summer.
Shaqiri has seen very little game time this season and recently his agent has hinted at a possible exit during the upcoming transfer window.
“I think there will be many offers for Xherdan in the summer,” Erdin Shaqiri said to Kosovar TV station KTV, as quoted by Goal.
“Already in January, there was concrete interest from two or three clubs. These – their names have already been taken up in various media – will knock again.”
So if Shaqiri was to leave at the end of the season then Willian can come in to be the perfect backup to Salah next season – especially when Klopp can sign him for free.
Willian has been an integral part of Chelsea this season and unlike other players, he shouldn’t have any trouble in adjusting to life at Anfield. But it still remains to be seen if the Brazilian wishes to move out of London especially with clubs like Arsenal and Spurs still interested in signing him.
