Liverpool might have picked up a 4-1 win during their first game of the new Premier League season but the match did not end well for goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The Anfield outfit blew apart the Canaries right from the very start but they suffered a major blow when Alisson slipped while taking a goal kick during the 36th minute of the match.

After a couple of minutes trying to patch him up on the pitch, the Liverpool medical staff decided to take him off which meant summer signing Adrian got his debut for the Reds.

And speaking after the game, the Liverpool boss confirmed that Alisson had suffered a calf injury which is why there was no other option but to take him off.

The manager also confirmed that the shot-stopper will not be able to take part in the UEFA Super Cup clash vs Chelsea in midweek.

The German told his post-match press conference: “There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury. That is, of course, not good for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it.

“It’s the calf and that’s it. He couldn’t carry on, that’s not a good sign. We have to see.

“Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play – with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much.”

This is certainly great news for Frank Lampard and his Chelsea side since Alisson was a key part of the Liverpool success last season.

But this time around it will be summer signing Adrian who will take his spot in between the sticks at Istanbul.

Now as per the latest reports, the Super Cup game is not the only game that the Brazilian will miss with James Pearce claiming the keeper is likely to be out for four to eight weeks.

He wrote on Twitter: “As things stand LFC expecting to be without Alisson Becker for between 4 and 8 weeks depending on how quickly he heals. Club working on having Andy Lonergan on the bench for the Super Cup with Adrian starting.”

This means Alisson will miss the next weekend’s clash vs Southampton and then the high-profile encounter against Arsenal which is set to be a home game.

And given the attacking firepower that the Gunners have managed to amass this season, the absence of Alisson might cost the Reds very dearly.
