Arsenal and now Manchester City are interested in signing Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz but it looks like the midfielder is not going to leave any time soon.

The Gunners have been trying to sign the Brazilian international since 2022 and so far, they have seen multiple bids rejected from the Villa Park outfit.

Manchester City sold Douglas Luiz to Villa back in 2019 for a fee of around £15 million and now, Pep Guardiola is also keen to bring the midfielder back to the Etihad Stadium. Over the years, City have brought in Kalvin Phillips and Matheus Nunes but both of them have turned out to be failures which is why Pep is interested in Luiz.

However, Unai Emery is very clear that he does not want to part ways with the 25-year-old and the club is already in talks over a new and improved deal.

Douglas Luiz has become one of the key players under Emery and with his contract running out in June of 2026, the Villa Park outfit are in no hurry to part ways with the midfielder.

Also, Luiz has shown no signs of discontent at the club and it does not look like he wishes to leave. This will make things doubly hard for Arsenal and Man City so there’s no way the midfielder will be leaving during the January window.

City can make do without a new central midfielder until the end of the season but the Gunners need a replacement for Thomas Partey as early as possible. Partey is likely to leave in January which means Mikel Arteta has to bring in an alternative.

Douglas Luiz is one of the top priority targets for Arsenal but we just do not see them landing the Brazilian at the start of the new year. The only thing that can convince Aston Villa on a sale is a crazy transfer fee but after spending more than £100 million in the summer, there’s no way Arsenal will spend a big amount in the winter window.
