Newcastle United are planning to make a move for Odion Ighalo who is currently out on loan to Manchester United – according to Sky Sports.

Newcastle are about to be taken over a Saudi consortium and it’s being claimed one of their first transfer targets will be the Nigerian international who returned back to the Premier League at the start of the new year.

As per Sky Sports, NUFC will try and make a move for the 30-year-old who’s scored four goals in eight matches for Man United, only if the takeover can be completed while the summer transfer window is still open.

The report claims: “Shanghai Shenhua expect Odion Ighalo to return from his loan spell at Manchester United in time for the start of the new Chinese Super League season, which is scheduled to begin in July.

“Manchester United are keen to extend Ighalo’s loan to cover the end of the Premier League season, the date of which remains unclear.

“It is thought Newcastle United would be interested in Ighalo if their proposed takeover is completed this summer.”

Will Odion Ighalo agree to join NUFC this summer?

Man United were expected to offer Odion Ighalo a permanent deal for the new season but that plan has been halted due to the spread of the disease.

And one fears that if the club can sign a new centre-forward this summer then they will likely pull the plug on Ighalo’s contract.

While this will surely be heartbreak for the Nigerian international since he recently hinted that he would love to stay at Manchester United beyond the summer but it will be great news for the Magpies who are said to be keeping a keen eye on this whole situation.

While playing in the Premier League could be a really lucrative offer for Ighalo but there’s also a chance the forward might choose to snub the offer from Newcastle United and head back to China since his parent club are ready to offer him a new deal which will hand him a big pay rise.
