Rhian Brewster might not be moving out of Liverpool this summer thanks to Timo Werner moving to Chelsea. That’s according to former Premier League centre-forward Kevin Phillips.

Brewster is a product of the Liverpool academy and the coaching staff at the club have really high hopes from him. The striker is currently out on loan to Swansea having moved there in January and so far he has managed to score four goals in 11 Championship games for the Welsh side.

Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is eager to bring him on board during the 2020/21 season on a loan deal and many believe the manager will be able to pull it off thanks to his good connections with his former club.

But Phillips has said that Chelsea signing Timo Werner could be a big boost to Brewster’s career as he might be able to get a first-team berth under Jurgen Klopp next season.

“I am pretty sure if Liverpool really wanted to, they could have got the deal done but it looks like he is off to Chelsea,” he told Football Insider.

“If I am a young player at Liverpool and Werner goes to Stamford Bridge, it gives you a little boost.

“Someone like Brewster when he comes back from Swansea could push for a first-team spot next year. It is encouraging for the younger players.

“It will be interesting to see what Liverpool do now, whether they go for someone else.”

Will Rhian Brewster remain at Liverpool?

What Phillips has said might be a genuine possibility but we think, Rhian Brester will be sent out of the club during the upcoming transfer window.

Not only Rangers but Swansea City also want to keep him on loan next season and if Klopp does not sign a new centre-forward then there’s no way the manager will part ways with Divock Origi in the summer.

This means Rhian Brewster will be the third-choice forward if he decides to remain at Anfield and this arrangement will not really help in sharpening his skills.

Right now, the odds are heavily stacked against the youngster breaking into the Liverpool first-team in the upcoming season meaning he should be sent out on loan, one way or the other.

Now what remains to be seen is if Rangers can their hands on him before Swansea or not?
