It’s no secret that Premier League side Arsenal hold a firm interest in Celtic FC’s prolific forward Odsonne Edouard. But the Gunners aren’t the only side keen to sign him up.
Apart from Arsenal, a couple of other significant names are also keeping tabs on the ex-PSG man but as per The Daily Mail, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is now making a really concrete move in order to sign Edouard during the summer.
The report states: “Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers wants a reunion with his former Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard who was named Scotland’s player of the season on Saturday.
“To help reach Celtic’s £35million valuation for the French under-21 international, the Foxes will listen to offers of £20million for Kelechi Iheanacho who started his career at Manchester City.
“Edouard has been linked with a number of clubs in England and Italy including Arsenal, Everton and Napoli but Rodgers is hoping the lure of Champions League football and his own relationship with the player will together persuade him to come to the King Power.”
Will Odsonne Edouard land up at Leicester?
This is a serious blow for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta who has already made up his mind to sell off Alexandre Lacazette in the summer and wants to bring in Odsonne Edouard as his like-to-like replacement.
But there’s a buzz in the English media that Leicester City might be able to beat Arsenal to this signing for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Brendan Rodgers has a close relationship with the forward having worked with him at Parkhead and this will play a key factor in helping the Foxes lure him in during the summer.
Also, as things stand, LCFC will be playing in the Champions League while Arsenal should remain in the Europa League. So given a choice, Odsonne Edouard should want to play in the top tier of European football next season.
A lot of things are yet to be decided in this transfer but the fact that Rodgers has put Kelechi Iheanacho up for sale, clearly suggest the Foxes mean business.
This is great news for Celtic since if Arsenal and Leicester were to start a bidding war in the summer, the Bhoys will be able to sell Edouard for a really hefty price.
