Chelsea’s latest signing tipped to succeed in the PL: Will he live up to the hype?

Thiago Silva to Chelsea

Chelsea have already brought in some big names during the current transfer window and as per reports, the Premier League giants are closing in on Thiago Silva.

The PSG man played his final game for the Ligue 1 side last weekend in the Champions League final and the centre-back is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Blues as a free agent.

And while many people have raised doubts over the signing of a 35-year-old defender, Brazilian legend Rivaldo is confident that Thiago Silva will shine in the England top division as well.

Rivaldo said, as reported: “I’m confident that he will do a great job there.

“He is a great centre back with excellent positioning and vast experience of world football.

“I think he still comes with plenty to offer. I’d back him to produce good football in the Premier League. And he should be a commanding voice in Frank Lampard’s otherwise young squad.

“Nowadays, many players extend their careers until their late-thirties and Silva is a good example of that, as I was in my time.

“If you keep yourself in good physical condition you can easily play at the highest level until 36-37-years-old.”

There’s no doubt Thiago Silva is one of the best central defenders in European football but there’s a stark difference between playing in the French league and the English Premier League.

Just ask Nicolas Pepe.

It’s really uncanny for a club like Chelsea to sign someone like Thiago Silva especially since the Brazilian will be 36 next month and all we can think of is that Frank Lampard is desperate to add some experience into that backline next season.

During his eight years with PSG, the defender has won numerous accolades but we will have to wait and see if he has the same sort of impact in England or does he turn into another David Luiz.
