Willian Chelsea

Chelsea winger Willian is set to be a free agent at the end of the 2019-20 season and there have been strong rumours he might join either Arsenal or Tottenham.

The 31-year-old reportedly wants a long-term deal at the club but the Blues are only ready to offer him a short-term contract which is why recently, Willian himself admitted that he would be heading for greener pastures during the summer transfer window.

“With Chelsea, it’s over,” Willian told Brazilian programme Expediente Futebol (via One Football).

“Everyone knows my contract ends in a few months. A renewal is difficult. Chelsea proposed two extra years and I wanted three. We’re not talking anymore. There won’t be a negotiation.”

Willian to stay at Chelsea next season?

Willian wants to remain in London for the rest of his professional career which is why Arsenal and Spurs have been the two favourites to land the player.

Now his agent Kia Joorabchian has revealed that the talks between Chelsea and his player are still stuck in limbo meaning Willian is sure to move out of Stamford Bridge in the summer.

“Before the pandemic occurred, the negotiations were around two and three years,” he told Sky Sports.

“Chelsea have a policy which we respect and understand but Willian has a career and he has ambition. He wants to finish his playing career at a very high level.”

Chelsea do not offer long-term deals to players who are above 30 which is why we do not feel Frank Lampard will make an exception especially now that he has gotten his hands on someone like Hakim Ziyech.

So it’s clear, Willian is not about to hang around which is great news for both the North London clubs since the situation they are currently in, both of them could certainly but the Brazilian to good use.

And having worked with him in the past, some experts believe the 31-year-old is more likely to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Spurs rather than move to the Emirates.

Despite being on the verge moving out for free, Willian has featured in 28 Premier League matches for the Blues this season, scoring five and assisting five goals.
