Premier League side Arsenal are now the frontrunners in signing Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli at the end of the season – as per the Daily Star.
The report states: “Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik after an approach from Juventus was rejected.
“Juventus are interested in Milik’s services but, according to Italian publication La Repubblica, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to avoid strengthening a fellow Serie A rival.
“As a result, a number of Premier League sides have been linked with the 26-year-old but La Republicca claim that the Gunners are the frontrunners.
“Milik worked closely with club legend Dennis Bergkamp during his time at Ajax and he could be tempted to try and follow in his former mentors footsteps in north London.”
Can Arkadiusz Milik replace Aubameyang?
Arkadiusz Milik has been with Napoli since 2016 but the Serie A side will be willing to let him leave if an interested club is ready to pay around £45 million.
And this might be the perfect amount for Arteta to spend on a player who could be the long-term replacement for Aubameyang.
The Gabon international is likely to leave in the summer and with just one year left on his current deal, Arsenal might not be able to get a massive transfer fee in exchange of their most prized asset. So in such a scenario, spending £45 odd million on Milik might be the precise transfer move.
The forward has managed to net nine goals in 16 Serie A matches this season for Napoli so the talent is clearly there but we will have to wait and see if he is interested in joining the Gunners especially when a club like Juventus are sniffing around.
Juve are ready to pay the asking price and are currently being obstructed by Napoli but if the 26-year-old himself wants a move to Turin the Napoli president might not be able to do much to stop it.
Plus, we are pretty confident Arsenal will make a move for Arkadiusz Milik only when they are sure that Aubameyang is heading out of the club.
