Xherdan Shaqiri Liverpool

Liverpool signed Xherdan Sahqiri from Stoke City during the summer transfer window many believed Klopp had found the perfect backup to the likes of Mane and Salah.

While pundits like Gary Neville had their doubts about the player but initially, Xherdan Shaqiri proved everyone wrong by making some great contributions off the bench.

During the 2018-19 season, Xherdan Shaqiri has made 21 appearances in the Premier League – most of them as substitutes and the 27-year-old has managed to score six goals and make two assists.

But during the past couple of months, the player’s importance has diminished somewhat and right now he is sidelined with a groin injury.

Many people had predicted this would happen to Xherdan Shaqiri and some have even gone on to claim that the Swiss could be sold off at the end of the season.

Shaq has not played any football for the past couple of weeks due to the injury but speaking before the Spurs clash on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp has hinted that the forward could return to the match-day squad.

“[Shaqiri is] good, much better. Since a couple of weeks [ago], has had some problems with the groin. He trained, not how he could train, but was still in the squad and all that stuff because we didn’t have a lot of options,” Klopp said(as reported by Football London)

“Now he feels better day by day and should be fine for the weekend.”

Klopp’s talk on the 27-year-old are certainly positive but there is no way that Xherdan Shaqiri would be handed a start and that too against an opponent like Spurs.

The trio of Mo Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino will start on Sunday and hopefully, the Anfield crowd would get to see Xherdan Shaqiri sometime late in the second half.
