Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel was left unconscious after he swallowed his tongue during Slovakia’s Kings Cup victory over Thailand on Sunday.

Skrtel was knocked out in the 27th minute of the match after the ball hit his face and he immediately collapsed on the ground.

But fortunately his teammate Ondrej Duda acted quickly and helped out the 33-year-old defender.

After the incident, the match saw a lengthy pause as Martin Skrtel was taken off the pitch and treated on the sidelines.

The Fenerbahçe defender was examined by the Slovakian team doctors and fortunately was given the go-ahead to return back into the game.

Skrtel then went onto play for another 45 minutes and Slovakia eventually went on to win the match 3-2 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand.
