Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently joined MLS side LA Galaxy after he was released by Manchester United. But this move to the United States has certainly come at a cost for the big Swede.

Zlatan joined United on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side PSG in the summer of 2016 after spending four seasons with the Paris outfit.

Initially, he signed a one year contract with the Premier League side but given his fine performance in the 2016-17 season, Man United decided to offer him a new one year deal.

But the striker has not been able to make any sort of impact this season – playing only 7 games in all competitions.

And this has mainly been due to the ACL injury he suffered towards the end of last season.

Last week Manchester United announced that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be leaving Old Trafford in order to join LA Galaxy in the MLS.

And now according to a report in the Sports Illustrated, the former Swedish International has taken a 95% pay cut in order to move to LA.

As per Spanish outlet Marca, Zlatan was receiving €21.8m a year at United but at LA Galaxy his salary has been reduced to just €1.2m a year.

This pay cut though has nothing to do with his age or form. Instead, the rules in the MLS restrict teams from exceeding a $3.8m wage limit. MLS clubs are sometimes allowed to pay more under the Designated Players Rule, but this will not be applied to Ibrahimovic.

After joining LA Galaxy, Zlatan said: “After being in Europe, winning 33 trophies, playing in the best teams in the world, playing with the best players in the world, I wanted to come to the US and play my game there,”

“I wanted people to enjoy my game there and to win, and I chose the Galaxy to do that.”

At the age of 36, it is pretty clear that Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to end in playing career in America.
