The Manchester Derby on Saturday was undoubtedly one of the most entertaining encounters of the season with Jose Mourinho’s men fighting back from a 2-0 deficit and eventually winning the match 3-2.

But amidst all the goals and excitement many people have overlooked a major setback that Manchester City suffered during the defeat at the hands of their neighbours.

Manchester City’s midfield general Fernandinho is set to miss the club’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season against Manchester United.

The Telegraph’s northern football correspondent James Ducker has claimed on Twitter that the Brazilian will not feature for City’s next two games after picking up his 10th yellow card.

The cutoff for avoiding the two-match ban was 32 league matches and coincidently the Manchester Derby was exactly the 32nd game.

The two-game ban means that Fernandinho will miss the games against Spurs and Swansea. While Guardiola does have several other alternatives who can replace the Brazilian but Fernandinho’s dominance in midfield will surely be a miss.

On the other hand, Spurs will now have the change to control the midfield against Manchester City at Wembley and they surely have the players who can open up the City defence.
