Arsene Wenger stepped down from his position as Arsenal manager this week after 22 years in charge of the club and farewell messages have been pouring in for the Frenchman from every direction.
And now Manchester United forward, Alexis Sanchez has revealed what he told his former boss.
Speaking after United 2-1 victory in the FA Cup semi-final against Spurs, Alexis Sanchez said that he had messaged Arsene Wenger after the Gunners’ boss announced his retirement.
Sanchez said: “I texted him yesterday to wish him the best. I could not say anything on social media but I texted him and he replied to me saying thank you to me.
“It’s sad because he is a historical football legend, I always said he is a gentleman and a football master, he taught me a lot about respect and to be professional. I’m just so thankful to him.”
Alexis joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2014 for a transfer fee of £31.7 million and the Chilean made himself a key figure at the club during his three and a half seasons with the club.
The forward played 165 games in all competitions for the Emirates side scoring 80 goals and it was during the start of the new year that he moved to Manchester United in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal.
But Sanchez’s move to Manchester United has been anything but superb as the Chilean has struggled to find his old form back but he was a key figure during United’s 2-1 victory over Spurs on Saturday.
Arsene Wenger, on the other hand, will want to end the current season on a high by winning the Europa League and helping Arsenal get back into the Champions League next season.
And now the biggest debate is who will replace the Frenchman at the end of the season?
