Barcelona are eyeing a move for Manchester City and Chelsea transfer target Virgil Van Dijk – according to Sport.

Van Dijk has been an outcast for Southampton during the past couple of games and this effectively gave rise to a lot of rumours that the Dutch International might be on his way out of the club during January. Now Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed those rumours by saying that the centre-back will be allowed to leave at the start of the new year.

While Manchester City and Chelsea are said to be the frontrunners in signing the player, now though it seems that Barcelona have also shown an interest in Van Dijk.

According to a report in the Sport, the Catalans have included the Dutchman in their transfer wishlist for 2018 and are expected to launch a bid for him during the first week of January.

Van Dijk was close to joining Liverpool during the summer but the Saints refused to let go of their defender. Now the player’s exclusion from a number of fixtures clearly suggests that things have gone sour between the two parties as a result of which Southampton are willing to cash in on him.

But the Saint Mary’s outfit have refused to lower their asking price for Van Dijk and will sell him to the club who are willing to meet his £70 million price tag.
