Dejan Lovren was a last minute omission from the teamsheet against Huddersfield this weekend and now manager Jurgen Klopp has come out and said that it was a late thigh problem that ruled out the defender.

Lovren had a very bad outing against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend where he was at fault for the first two goals that the Lilywhites had scored. In fact, his performance was so bad that he was taken off by the manager on the half an hour mark. But later Klopp came out to defend the player during his pre-match press conference against Huddersfield. Thus the late swap of Dejan Lovren with Ragnar Klavan certainly raised a few eyebrows.

But while talking to the club’s official website, Klopp was quick to gun down any rumours. He said, “It was the last pass. Maybe you saw it. Joel and Dejan were exchanging passes and then in the last one, he felt something in the muscle,

“I don’t know exactly, we had no time – the only question I asked in the treatment room was, ‘Yes or no?’ and I got a no and then we changed. It is his thigh.”

Liverpool next take on Maribor during midweek in the Champions League Group Stage fixture.
