According to the Metro, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl.

Manchester United have been wanting to sign a proper midfielder for quite some time now. And the names that have popped up every now and again are those of Spurs’ Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic.

But both those deals look to be in limbo as of now. Tottenham are not willing to let of Dier go while Chelsea are holding on to Matic as long as they do not sign Tiemoue Bakayoko. So Mourinho is kind of fiddling around with his alternatives.

The 21-year-old has been an interest of various top European clubs during his two-year stay at Dortmund. But Weigl suffered a broken ankle in May and will be out of action until September. And this one of the primary reasons why a lot of teams have cooled interest in the player. But those curious teams are bound to return back during the January transfer window and Mourinho is hoping to sign him up before that.

The German International joined Borussia Dortmund from 1860 Munich and is currently valued at £44 million in the transfer market. The asking price is quite high for Weigl given the fact that he is under contract with Dortmund up until 2021.

There have also been reports that rivals Manchester City are also sniffing around and have shown a keen interest in the 21-year-old.
