Chelsea owner and Russian business tycoon Roman Abramovich is planning to apply for an Isreali citizenship – according to reports coming out of Israel.

The Russian businessman man was recently denied a visa extension by the British government following tensions between both the countries.

Owing to this, the Chelsea owner was not present at Wembley during his club’s FA Cup victory over Manchester United last weekend.

The last time Abramovich’s visa was renewed was back in April of 2015 after which the visa laws in the UK have strengthened quite a bit.

While there is no clear evidence that Roman Abramovich is involved in any sort of wrongdoings but the United Kingdom has scrutinized Russian businesspeople and diplomats more carefully since the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, England, in March.

In June 2003, Abramovich became the owner of the companies that control Chelsea Football Club and his take over of the West London outfit had ushered in a new era for the club.

According to the Forbes Billionaire list of 2017, Roman Abramovich’s net worth stands at $9.1 billion making him the 139th richest person in the world.

Apart from Chelsea Football Club, the Russian businessman also owns Millhouse Capital which is a British registered company that manages the assets of Roman Abramovich and his partners – the office of which is based in Stamford Bridge, the home ground of Chelsea.

Roman Abramovich also holds a 31.03 percent stake in EVRAZ plc which is a steel making and mining company headquartered in London, United Kingdom.
