Manchester United finished second on the Premier League table and that too by a huge margin. So it is no secret that Jose Mourinho will be provided with a huge transfer budget so as to close United’s gap with Manchester City who became the Premier League champions.

One area that Jose Mourinho is expected to strengthen is his defensive line, by bringing in a couple of new signings during the summer.

The United boss has been a long time admirer of Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti and the Old Trafford outfit is expected to launch a bid for the French International given that his release clause is just €60 million.

The 24-year-old is easily one of the best defenders in the world right now and that minor a release clause will surely attract a number of top clubs and Manchester United are just one of them.

Barcelona know that one of their biggest priority will be to sign a contract extension with Umtiti which will see a rise in the defender’s release clause.

But the 24-year-old has recently claimed that there is no news of a contract extension right now.

Samuel Umtiti told reporters: “On my contract extension, I have no news. I look at my phone but I have not been called so nothing has happened.

“My situation? I don’t think it’s going to disturb me too much because it’s been going on for a few months and I had to finish a season like this.

“I think it’s important to settle these cases before the start of the competition and for my part, it will be done.”

Multiple tabloids from Spain have claimed for months now that Barcelona will put forward a contract extension as soon as the 2017-18 season comes to a close but Umtiti has clearly mentioned that that deal is yet to come.
