According to a report in 90min, Chelsea are interested in signing Arsenal’s keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners have brought in David Raya in the summer and this signing has immediately put Ramsdale’s position in jeopardy. The English keeper had a pretty solid 2022/23 season but still, Mikel Arteta chose to bring Raya into the squad and this has raised a lot of eyebrows.

Raya has arrived at the Emirates Stadium on an initial season-long loan from Brentford but Arsenal have a £27m purchase clause and as per multiple sources, Arteta wants to trigger the same at the end of the season.

Will Aaron Ramsdale fall down the pecking order?

This season, Ramsdale has started four Premier League games but there is an increasing belief that the 25-year-old will become the second-choice keeper as the campaign progresses.

Ramsdale is a commanding keeper in and around the penalty box but David Raya is much better with his feet and Mikel Arteta clearly wants a goalkeeper who is capable and confident with the ball at his feet.

Raya got his first start this weekend against Everton and we strongly feel the 28-year-old is going to replace Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s No 1. The two players will get a lot of game time because the Gunners will be challenging all competitions but a keeper will not want to be a starter in one gameweek and a substitute in another.

Will Arsenal allow Ramsdale to join Chelsea?

David Raya’s arrival has caused a lot of chaos with many experts questioning Arteta’s decision to sign Raya when he already has a world-class keeper at his disposal.

The goalkeeper’s position is usually the most secure but the Arsenal manager has made it clear that he wants competition for every position and even the No. 1 spot is not out of bounds.

Ramsdale’s contract expires in 2026 and as per the reports, despite Chelsea’s interest he is not looking to leave as he wants to battle David Raya for his place in the side.

Thanks to a massive summer clear out, Chelsea have managed to balance their books to a large extent so they can very easily spend money on someone like Aaron Ramsdale but the situation at Chelsea will be the same as Arsenal.

The Blues have signed Sanchez in the summer so if Ramsdale heads across London he will have to fight for his position all over again. It will make no sense to join a direct rival and go through the same headaches. If his situation in North London worsens as the season rolls along then Aaron Ramsdale might change his mind and look to head out but he will want to join a side where he is the undisputed number one and unfortunately, Chelsea is not that destination.
