According to a report in The Independent, Arsenal will offload Aaron Ramsdale at the end of this season and it’s Newcastle United who are most likely to land the keeper.

The Gunners signed the English keeper from Sheffield United for a transfer fee of around €28 million and in his first two seasons, he was a regular feature in the first team. However, the arrival of David Raya in the summer has pushed Aaron Ramsdale down the pecking order and now he’s at the risk of fading into oblivion.

Last season, Ramsdale played in 41 games for Arsenal but this campaign, he’s played in only six Premier League games. Initially, the keeper was willing to fight for his position but he’s changed his stance in recent months and now, he is ready to leave.

Will joining Newcastle United help Aaron Ramsdale regain his confidence?

Newcastle United has Nick Pope as their No 1 but the keeper’s season has been ravaged by injuries and so far he’s played in only 14 Premier League games. He’s missed 27 games for the Magpies due to a shoulder injury which he picked up back in December.

Eddie Howe has been using 35-year-old Martin Dubravka in goal since Pope’s absence but now the manager and Aaron Ramsdale has all the attributes to become the ideal replacement for the 32-year-old.

Ramsdale was sensational for Sheffield United and in his first two seasons with Arsenal, he did not do much wrong either. It’s just that Mikel Arteta needed a keeper who is better with the ball with his feet that’s why he opted to bring in David Raya.

However, Ramsdale is still only 25 years old and he can really help stabilise Newcastle United’s No 1 position for the next six to seven seasons.

He’s hardly played this season but last campaign, Ramsdale kept 14 clean sheets and conceded 43 goals in 38 Premier League games. During the 22/23 season, he played 3420 minutes in the league and ended up making 95 games at a percentage of 68.84%. Nick Pope has a better save percentage in 14 league games this season but his injuries have been a big hindrance for Eddie Howe. Also, Pope is already 32 years old which means if not now then the Magpies will have to search for a long-term replacement in one or two years.

As per reports, Arsenal have set a price tag of £50 million for Aaron Ramsdale but because he is of no use to Mikel Arteta, the club will probably lower their demands. And if Newcastle United can get their hands on him for around £40-45 million then it will be a very good business deal.
