Here’s why ‘this’ Rangers top-man will not be leaving Ibrox during the January transfer window

During the summer transfer window, a number of clubs were said to be interested in signing Alfredo Morelos from Rangers.

While a transfer did not materialize but there have been rumours that some of the interested clubs might come back for the striker next month given his goal-scoring spree during the current campaign.

Alfredo Morelos was one of the few positives for Rangers last season and this season the Colombian has already clocked up 19 goals in 32 games for the Teddy Bears.

And the Gers fans have been fearful that their club might be able to hold onto Alfredo Morelos if a huge sum if offered for him.

But now Steven Gerrard has made it clear that the striker will not be leaving Ibrox next month.

“I’m not resistant to bids. But I won’t have his head turned in January, that’s simple,” Steven Gerrard said.

“He won’t be going anywhere. The player knows what I think on that situation.

“At all top clubs, especially number nines. Fans adore them. I’ve played with many myself. [Fernando] Torres, [Luis] Suarez, [Robbie] Fowler, those kind of players and he’s got that same link here because he’s consistent in front of goal.

“He’s the one when the game’s in the balance or a bit tight, he delivers magic moments.

“He deserves all that respect and love from the fans and he knows that he’s also respected by his team-mates and the staff.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep developing and improving him, not just the player but the person as well.

“He’s working really hard at that and [as a finisher] he’s up there. And I think he can get better.”

Alfredo Morelos has taken up all the goalscoring burden during the first half of the season and the Colombian has done a fantastic job more so since Kyle Lafferty seems to have lost his goal-scoring touch.

But one thing that has been a constant headache for Steven Gerrard is the unnecessary red cards that Alfredo Morelos has been picking up.
