Andre Gomes returned back from that nasty injury which he suffered a couple of months ago and played his first competitive match for Everton on Sunday against Arsenal.

During the past week, Gomes had been involved in a friendly game for the Toffees which was indication enough that the player was fit and ready to return back to the top flight.

But in the end, Andre Gomes did not find a place in the starting XI but came on as a substitute in the 59th minute of the match.

And during the last half-hour, the midfielder was one of the brighter sparks for Ancelotti’s sides as he produced a number of key passes which managed to carve open the Arsenal defence.

So naturally many fans were a bit perplexed as to why the Everton boss chose not to use him from the start despite him being fully fit.

Thankfully though, Carlo knew these questions would be coming sooner or later so the manager had made a clarification even before the game had gotten underway.

Ancelotti said via Liverpool Echo: “I spoke with André, he was not so comfortable to start. It was a big injury, but now he is ready.

“Another week does not matter – maybe he can be involved today. He is in good condition, the most important thing is he is ready.”

Apart from Andre Gomes, the manager also explained the absence of Digne saying the player has picked up a minor injury but he should be ready for the next game.

The boss said added: “Digne had a problem during the week and tried to train yesterday but was not confident, so I preferred to leave him at home to train and be ready for the next game.”
