Premier League Sir Alex Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson is easily one of the most respectable and recognisable coaches in world football and there are not many people in the footballing world who can even raise their voices infront of the Scott.

So why would someone call the legend a ‘Scottish bas**rd’?

The man in question is Ukranian winger Andrei Kanchelskis who spent four years at Old Trafford during the early 1990’s.

Andrei Kanchelskis joined Manchester United in 1991 from Shakhtar Donetsk and ended up playing 161 games for the Red Devils. He eventually left the club in 1995 to join Merseyside outfit, Everton.

The 1994-95 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year has now entered into management and recently in an interview with FourFourTwo, the winger revealed how he did not even know which club he was joining until he reached Old Trafford.

Kanchelskis said: “When I flew to England in 1991, no one told me which club I was going to,

“I asked my agent and he just said, ‘To Manchester’. I asked, ‘Which club?’ and he replied, ‘I don’t know’.

“When we landed, we were driven to Old Trafford. It was only then that I realised it was United.”

The 49-year-old released his autobiography last year and all of a sudden an excerpt from the book has gone viral when the player talks about how he was tricked into calling Sir Alex Ferguson a ‘Scottish bas**rd’.

Kanchelskis wrote: ‘When you come into a dressing room you will be taught how to swear and address the manager.’

And then on their first meeting,

Sir Alex Ferguson asked the winger: “All right Andrei, hows it going?”

And Andrei Kanchelskis replied: “F*ck off, Scottish b*stard”

At first, the manager was taken by surprise but then when he heard the other players laughing in the background, Sir Alex Ferguson realised that Andrei’s teammates had taken the mickey out of him.

Andrei Kanchelskis also had a stint in Scotland where he played for Rangers FC from 1998 to 2002 and was eventually loaned out to Manchester City where he played a handful of games.

The winger remains one of those few players who had scored in almost all of the major derbies in the United Kingdom – namely the Merseyside Derby, the Manchester Derby and the Old Firm Derby.
