Just when things were looking to get better for West Ham United, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been hit with yet another blow.

During the early months of the summer, the Hammers lost Andy Carroll to a long-term injury and then it was Jack Wilshere’s turn to head into the treatment room.

And now it is summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko who is expected to be sidelined for a long time with an ankle injury.

Yarmolenko injured himself during West Ham’s loss to Tottenham as the player went down clutching his ankle following which he had to be taken off the pitch.

Initially, the injury was thought to be a minor one but now reports have suggested that the winger will have to go through an operation this week.

Andriy Yarmolenko has reportedly torn his achilles tendon and will be out for atleast six months.

And according to legendary pundit John Motson, Andriy Yarmolenko’s injury could turn West Ham back towards the relegation zone.

John Motson told talkSPORT: “The worry for West Ham now is Yarmolenko because he got carried off with a very nasty-looking Achilles injury.

“I tell you what, it doesn’t get any better for West Ham because not only might it be his season, but Lanzini’s showing no sign of coming back and he’s still out for a long while.

“So, that would rather decimate their creative, sort of, the core of the team if you know what I mean.”

Yarmolenko joined West Ham during the summer on a four-year contract for a £22 million transfer fee and the 28-year-old has slowly been turning himself into one of the main players in the first XI.

But with him out of action probably until the new year, the onus will not be on Marko Arnautovic to pull out an inspirational performance – much like he did last season.
