Celtic FC are reportedly looking to make a move for Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme during the summer transfer window.
Riquelme is a product of Atletico Madrid’s academy and he made his senior debut for the club back in September of last year playing just 12 minutes against Eibar.
But since then, he has not seen any action for the senior side and with his current contract about to expire in the summer, Celtic FC are looking to bring him in.
The La Liga outfit are not looking to offer the winger a new deal at the club meaning he will be available as a free agent and this is the main reason why Neil Lennon is taking special attention in the 20-year-old.
SunSport are reporting: “CELTIC are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme.
“Hoops scouts have watched the Spanish kid, 20, in action for Atletico’s development side this season. And Parkhead boss Neil Lennon is believed to be aware of the highly-rated youngster’s availability.”
If Celtic FC are able to sign him for free in the summer then it will be a great bit of business from the Glasgow outfit but what remains to be seen is if the player is willing to move to the SPFL.
Riquelme has born in Madrid and has spent all his life in Spain which is why moving to Scotland could be a massive cultural shock for the player.
And this means the first thing Lennon will have to do is convince the player to join the Scottish League and maybe also entrust him with the fact that he will move onto greater things pretty soon.
