Manchester City beat West Ham United 4-0 in the Premier League this weekend meaning they still sit pretty at the top of the table.

City are yet to lose a game in the league this year and remain favourites to defend their trophy. But it is Liverpool that remain adamant to break their doubt by beating Pep Guardiola’s men to the title by the end of the season.

Liverpool apart from Man City are the only other team who haven’t lost a game this year in the Premier League and with a 3-0 win over Watford this past weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s men remain within two points of the league leaders.

Many pundits believe that Liverpool might just be able to topple Manchester City before the new year begins but Pep Guardiola feels that the pressure created by Liverpool will help Man City even more.

Here’s how:

“It’s similar with (Rafa) Nadal, (Roger) Federer and (Novak) Djokovic, no? They push one to be better than the other one because they know,” Pep Guardiola said.

“We need it in sport, as athletes. They (the City players) know. I didn’t tell them, but they know how strong Liverpool are.

“They know that we can’t drop points because if we do Liverpool are going to win the league. I can say Liverpool or Chelsea and Tottenham are the same in this moment. Arsenal as well.

“To compete we need good opponents close and this season we have it, here and in Europe.”

Liverpool fans might be expecting that their team will lift the Premier League trophy come May next year. But their Champions League campaign might be a big factor in preventing them from achieving European glory.

The Reds are in Gropu C which still remains very much open with all the four teams still having a chance to enter the knockout stages. But City on the other hand still pretty on top of the table in Group F with nine points meaning their qualification is guaranteed.

And this is where Liverpool might end up losing some valuable steam which is required to push for the Premier League title, especially during the busy festive period.
