Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard

According to former Barcelona and Rangers midfielder Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the Teddy Bears are getting closer to challenging Celtic for the Premiership title.

Steven Gerrard is about to complete his second full season with the Scottish side and in both these years, Rangers have not been able to break Celtic’s domestic monopoly.

And just when there have been whispers of Gerrard not being the right man to take the club forward, Van Bronckhorst has suggested otherwise.

“I can only look with pride and a smile on my face on my wonderful years at Rangers,” he to Sky Sports.

“The gap between Rangers and Celtic is getting closer and hopefully Steven Gerrard will make Rangers champions again. He’s doing a really good job.

“I can see similarities between Steven and me, it’s a different task to being a player but we’re both enjoying it.

“I also enjoyed being part of a special team at Arsenal, but unfortunately I had a big injury. But I look back on it as a great experience.”

Are Rangers catching up with arch-rivals Celtic?

Steven Gerrard has been trying to mould the Gers first-team as per his imagination since day one but it seems like the manager is yet to completely satisfy his creativity.

He has made dozens of signings over the past few transfer windows but most of them have failed to shine at Ibrox. And while Stevie G has been busy tinkering with his first XI, Celtic have been stacking up their trophy cabinet.

The past two seasons have been nothing but average for the Teddy Bears and we feel the fans might finally be starting to grow a bit impatient.

The 2020/21 season will be really crucial for the Rangers boss since if Gerrard can’t pick up at least one domestic silverware by next summer, then the Ibrox management will have no other option but to look for alternatives.
