Europa League final Baku Olympic Stadium

Arsenal will take on Chelsea in the Europa League final later this month at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan.

The Gunners beat Valencia in the semis while Chelsea overcame the Eintracht test to reach the finals and this London Derby has surely added a lot of sheen to the otherwise dull Europa League.

But the fact that this high-intensity game will be played in Azerbaijan has not gone down too well with a number of people.

A couple of days ago, Jurgen Klopp criticised UEFA for hosting such an important game so far away and now it looks like Arsenal have also chosen to vent out their frustration.

The Gunners released a statement in which they have bashed UEFA for their decision to host the Europa League final in Baku citing reasons that fans will have to go through a lot – both physically and financially in order to reach the stadium.

Arsenal released a statement in which they said: “We are bitterly disappointed by the fact that due to transport limitations UEFA can only make a maximum of 6,000 tickets available to Arsenal for a stadium with a capacity of well over 60,000,

“Time will tell if it is even possible for 6,000 Arsenal fans to attend the match, given how extreme the travel challenges are.

“On behalf of our fans, we would like to understand the criteria by which venues are selected for finals, and also how supporter requirements are taken into account as part of this,

“Moving forward, we would urge UEFA to ensure that supporter logistics and requirements are a key part of any future decisions for final venues as what has happened this season is unacceptable, and cannot be repeated.

“We would be happy to join any future discussions to avoid this situation happening again.”

London and Baku are 2800 miles away and the biggest concern is that there are no connecting flights between the two cities.

This means that the fans who wish to travel for the Europa League final will have to spend a fortune in order to reach Azerbaijan.
