Arsenal will take on Newcastle United at St James Park this Sunday in their opening game for the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League this season but Unai Emery has made sure that a repeat does not happen this time around.

Everyone expected Arsenal to have a poor transfer window given they only had around 45 million pounds to spend. But the North London club might have done some of the best business amongst the top-six clubs.

They have brought in players like Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos who certainly add to the attacking prowess of the side.

And on deadline day, they also managed to secure the services of Kieran Tierney and David Luiz – the much-needed reinforcement required in defence.

So naturally, with all this firepower, everyone expects Arsenal to pick up all three points vs the Magpies on Sunday.

Unfortunately, though, that would be easier said than done since Unai Emery could miss some key players during the season opener.

As per the club, both Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe are fighting a race against time to be fit for Sunday.

Alexandre Lacazette picked up an injury during pre-season and the club have confirmed that the forward will go through a late fitness test before the game.

“Right ankle. Will continue to be assessed ahead of Sunday’s match at Newcastle.” the club statement read.

Nicolas Pepe featured in the Africa Cup of Nations which means he joined the Gunners a bit late and according to Arsenal he is not yet fully fit.

“Regaining full match fitness following late return from African Cup of Nations. Decision to be made on participation for Sunday.” the club added.

While some rumours claim that Unai Emery will use Nicolas Pepe on Sunday but the summer signing might only be brought on during the final quarter of the match.
