Rangers have successfully beaten Celtic FC and signed winger Brandon Barker from Manchester City – the Gers have announced.

Steven Gerrard’s side released an official statement stating that they have successfully wrapped up the transfer of the City academy graduate who spent the previous season out on loan to Championship side, Preston North End.

The statement read: “RANGERS Football Club are today delighted to announce the signing of attacker Brandon Barker subject to international clearance.

“Barker, 22, joins for an undisclosed fee and signs a three-year contract with the club.”

And this transfer is a huge blow for Celtic boss Neil Lennon who has reportedly held interest in Brandon Barker.

As per reports, the Bhoys had been keeping tabs on Brandon Barker all throughout the summer as the manager wanted him to be the long-term replacement for Scott Sinclair.

But clearly, the Gers were swifter to act with many experts claiming that Steven Gerrard played a major role in the acquisition of the former Manchester City man.

And speaking after his move was made official, Brandon Barker has revealed why he chose to join Rangers despite Celtic holding a substantial interest.

Barker told Rangers TV(as reported): “It’s a massive club. I think the name speaks for itself.

“The people that are working here obviously had a massive influence on that.

“I’m here to develop myself and there’s no better place to do that than Rangers Football Club.

“In the attacking third, I’m quite direct. I like to go into 1v1 situations and I can give the team breathers when we’re struggling, and get us up the pitch.

“I’m quite composed on the ball so I look to bring that into the game. I want to try and score goals, create goals and try and help the team.

“Obviously, I played [at Ibrox] when I played for Hibs and the atmosphere is overwhelming. It gives you shivers and that’s what you want to do every single week. That’s every kid’s dream, playing in front of that many people.

“I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get the opportunity to do that.”
