Arsenal appointed Unai Emery as their new boss at the start of the summer and every fan thought their team would be back on the rise after slowly but steadily they would get back their glory days.
But if we can be brutally honest then the Gunners looked as fragile as they were last season under Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal played the first game of the new Premier League season against defending champions Manchester City and they failed to put up a fight – losing the game 2-0.
Unai Emery has brought in a number of new signings during the summer transfer window but Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Manchester City proved one crucial thing – that a number of the old players also need to be shown the exit as soon as possible.
And perhaps the name that should be on top of the list is midfielder Granit Xhaka.
The Swiss international started in central midfield alongside summer signing Matteo Guendouzi and the former performed so poorly that fans are asking Emery to sell him off after just one game.
Xhaka is genuinely the worst midfielder I've seen in 25 years at Arsenal. Slow, indecisive, positionally abject, constantly invites pressure on to the team and excels at literally nothing

Xhaka is finished, he needs to go, I was gonna give him the season, but nah, he’s done out ere

Xhaka is finished, Guendouzi and Torreira needs to happen

Time to accept that Xhaka is a monumental flop. Poor defensively and can't put threatening passes forwards. Torreira is better and gave a great ball over top to Auba. Time for Xhaka to be benched then sold. I would prefer playing Guendouzi-Torreira in midfield than Xhaka.

If you look at City’s second goal yesterday, Xhaka was literally in no mans land. A smart CDM would cut out any pass Mendy could make into the box, instead Xhaka just stands on the edge and watches. Clueless footballer

Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach two years ago but the midfielder has failed to live up to that £35 million price tag – delivering more hits than misses during his stay at the club.
And Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Manchester City was a typical Granit Xhaka performance where did not have any control over the midfield as a result of which Guardiola’s men had a free license to do what they want.
We know that this might be too early to pass a judgement but we have a feeling that Unai Emery should have pushed a bit harder to sign Steven N’zonzi from Sevilla.
