Mesut Ozil Arsenal news
Mesut Ozil Arsenal

Mesut Ozil has been a pain in the neck for Arsenal ever since he was offered the new deal. But now it seems Mikel Arteta is finally looking to get rid of him.

The German joined the North London outfit in 2013 from Real Madrid and for the first few seasons, the player was exceptional for the side which is why the club chose to hand him a new deal in 2018.

Under the terms of the new offer, Mesut Ozil has been receiving £350,000-a-week making him the highest-paid player at the club. And this has been a major source of discussion over the past year and a half.

Ozil has been really poor this season, scoring just one goal in 18 Premier League matches and at one point he was sure to head for the exit doors as he had fallen down the pecking order under Unai Emery.

But Mikel Arteta has dragged him back to the first XI which was a hint the club could offer him a new deal since he is set to be a free agent in the summer of 2021. That though does not seem to be the case.

As per ESPN, the player will not be getting a new deal at the Emirates meaning Arsenal could be putting him up for sale at the end of this season.

Can Arsenal find a buyer for Mesut Ozil?

Not a lot of clubs are inclined to sign Mesut Ozil primarily due to his high wage demands so if Arsenal are truly looking to sell him off this summer then it could be a cause of concern for the North London club.

£350,000-a-week is a lot of money during a time of such financial crisis and not a lot of clubs in Europe will be eager to spend so much money on the playmaker.

Also, the fact that he will be turning 32 in the month of October does not help his cause either.

Mesut Ozil will have a lot of takers if he’s willing to take a massive pay cut but we are not sure if the German will agree to this since he’s not even agreed to take the recent 12.5% pay cut due to the financial constraints at the club.

But Arteta will be desperate to get rid of the German as by doing so, the manager will be able to free the club’s massive wage bill thereby offering Aubameyang his much-desired new contract.
