Arsenal are club famed in England at bringing up young talents from the academy levels and turning them into first-team regulars.
Arsene Wenger pioneered this system when took charge of the club in the 1990s and since then Arsenal have had a history of bringing in prodigies from all around Europe.
Recently academy manager Per Mertesacker had revealed that the club were planning to team up with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in order to see how the German club’s youth system operates.
“Werder Bremen has a very good youth system and with Thomas someone who brings in new structures,” Mertesacker told Bild.
“I talked to him and thought about what we can do together as far as players are concerned.”
And now the former Arsenal player has gone on to add that in the future a lot of young talents from the club could be heading to Germany for better exposure.
Mertesacker said: “In our U23s you will be introduced to the men’s area as well as in Bremen. However, you play only against peers at an average age of 18 or 19.
“Although you have good opponents, duels with men’s teams does not exist.
“In Germany, you are challenged in the regional league or even better in the third league.
“Therefore, the step from our U23 into the first team is even bigger, because the next higher level is the Premier League.
“Therefore, for us at Arsenal loans in the Bundesliga are very attractive.”
And this is not only Arsenal we are talking about, but young players in England are also constantly heading out to Germany in order to get more game time and develop since many experts believe that the U23 level in Germany is currently operating better than that in the UK.
