The Arsenal management has told their players about a possible way through which they will not have to take a pay-cut – as per the Telegraph.

Currently, the coronavirus pandemic has suspended all football in Europe’s top leagues and there’s no possible way to say as to when the matches will resume.

So naturally, with such a long shutdown being inevitable, various Premier League clubs have opted to ask their players and top-level managements to take a pay cut so the non-essential staff members can be paid in full.

Arsenal too have relayed a similar message to their players but along with a modest twist.

As per the report, the management has told the players they will not have to take a pay-cut if they can qualify for the Champions League next season – a feat they have failed to achieve since 2016.

With the suspension of Man City from Europe, a fifth-place finish in the Premier League could be enough to catapult Arsenal back to the top-tier but the players do not seem too confident of achieving this.

Right now the Gunners are ninth on the league table, eight points off the fourth-spot and it will be really difficult for them to achieve this feat since teams like Sheffield United, Man United and even Spurs are fighting for this.

So while the Arsenal players do have a chance at securing their payments in full but they might as well have to accept defeat and agree to a pay-cut in the coming few weeks.

Almost all the clubs have urged their players to consider taking a pay cut but right now it seems like the bigger clubs are finding it hard to convince their players.

Update: Arsenal players ready to reject pay-cut

As per reports, the Gunners management had proposed a pau-cut of 12.5 per cent on the entire playing squad until March 2021 if the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

While the players are ready to help out their club during this time of crisis but as per the rumours, they are set to reject this initial proposal since they want to discuss this matter further.

According to the players, they will already lose a lot of money if they fail to qualify for the Champions League since their current contracts are tied to various performances. And so they do not wish to take a further pay-cut and lose out on a massive portion of their wages for one whole year.
