A couple of months ago when Arsenal were going through their unbeaten run everyone thought that they would finish in the top-four very easily.
But now as the season is rolling along, the Gunners are finding it really difficult to achieve this dream.
And the sudden peak in form from Man United have not helped either.
The Gunner are currently sixth on the Premier League table and after a 2-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, Arsenal have managed to keep only a single point difference between them and the fourth spot.
And when Unai Emery was asked about his thoughts on Arsenal making it to the Champions League next season, here’s what the manager had to say.
“It was very important to win, to be closer to the top four and our target is this,” Emery said.
“After 26 games there is a one-point difference between us and Manchester United.
“If we ask is it difficult for us, I think it’s difficult, but we can. After 26 games we are on our way and our motivation is very great and we’ve brought our target closer.
“I am very happy. We were working well. Every player was working and helping each other and today I’m very proud with our work.”
Chelsea will play Man City on Sunday and if the Blues fail to pick up three points then they will finish the week in the fifth spot.
And this will be a huge boost for Arsenal since all the three contenders for the fourth spot on the table will remain in close proximity.
Having said that though, Arsenal have started the second half of the season really poorly and if they expect to bring back Champions League football to the Emirates next season then Unai Emery’s men will need to string together some wins during the next couple of games.
