Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-0 this weekend and everyone has been raving about the high-intensity performance from the Gunners.
The Arsenal players played a constant pressing game which dismantled Chelsea’s tactics and forced them to make a huge chunk of unforced errors.
And naturally since Emery’s men were playing a pressing game, Mesut Ozil as once again from the first XI.
Mesut Ozil was named on the substitutes bench and Unai Emery did not even feel the need to bring him on as a substitute.
Next up, the Gunners welcome Manchester United at the Emirates in the FA Cup and the question on everyone’s mind is whether Mesut Ozil will play in that game.
Talking about Ozil’s role in the first XI, Unai Emery has hinted that the playmaker could feature for the Gunners during the next couple of games.
“Today I have the confidence with him if he played. I think he could do like we wanted. The next matches we are going to need every player and also his quality,” Emery said(as reported).
“This result today is the consequence of the good work in this idea (pressing),
“But each match is different. Sometimes we are going to play against the team who will play the long ball straight away and then there is not a lot of possibilities to do the pressing like today.
“We need another idea to win against a team that plays like that. The next matches against Manchester United and Cardiff will be different.
“Today we needed we do this pressing and we did it for the win.”
Manchester United have been playing a more attacking game under their new caretaker boss which means Unai Emery might have to use the same tactic that he used during the win against Chelsea.
And in order for that ploy to work, the Arsenal will most certainly have to select Aaron Ramsey in midfield over Mesut Ozil.
