Arsenal are trying really hard to hold onto Aubameyang beyond the summer transfer window and according to Darren Bent, the Gunners need to take some key transfer calls in order to keep hold of the Gabon international.

Aubameyang has one year left on his current deal and right now Arsenal are busy negotiating a new contract with the forward and one of the major stumbling blocks is the high wages that Auba has been demanding.

But according to Darren Bent, the 31-year-old is one of the most important players in the club’s history and the North London side needs to make a couple of sacrifices in order to keep him at the Emirates.

“I’d pay him what exactly he wants,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“Listen, the performance he showed in the semi-final against [Man] City and then in the final – two big, big stages where Arsenal weren’t really given a chance to win – he single-handedly pulled them out of the fire and won them the game.

“It’s a no-brainer, they should be trying everything they can, even if that means sacrificing certain players and moving them on to keep him there, I’d do it.

“Ozil is one, but that’s going to be tricky because I can’t see him walking away, he’ll want to collect every penny of his wages.

“Kolasinac is on his ridiculous wages I’d let him go and I would even let Hector Bellerin go because we’ve seen Ainsley Maitland-Niles play there and do a good job.

“There are players who are surplus to requirements; Arsenal have got seven centre-halfs as well, so surely if they let a couple of those go.

“Aubameyang is their main man, you could even make the argument that he is the most important striker in Arsenal’s history!”

Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi will most certainly be shown the door during the coming weeks but we cannot say the same for players like Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin.

Kieran Tierney has done pretty well at the left-back role this season but Mikel Arteta would want to keep an experienced back-up to the Scott for the 2020-21 season.

Arsenal have been given a lift by winning the FA Cup and thereby securing Europa League football but what remains to be seen is if Aubameyang is content with the second tier of European football or does he wish to play in the Champions League next season.
