Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang scored a brace for Arsenal against Everton this weekend meaning the forward is now the joint top-scorer in the Premier League alongside Jamie Vardy.

The player has been a superstar for the Gunners and Mikel Arteta will have to ensure that he is able to hold onto the player for the next season amidst strong interest from Barcelona.

Barcelona tried to sign Aubameyang during the January transfer window but failed to do so but chances are that they will be able to get their man during the summer since the former BVB forward desperately wants to get back into the Champions League.

But while rumours of Aubameyang leaving Arsenal keep growing with each passing week, Mikel Arteta has now come out to claim that he will do everything in his right to keep his biggest asset at the club.

‘He’s our most important player,’ said Arteta via Metro.

‘Stats wise there’s no question about the impact that he has on this team.

‘So as much as I can and the club can we will try to convince him to stay with us.

‘It’s incredible the amount of defensive work that he’s doing. Before [taking charge] I had my questions [but] it shows all the commitment that he’s shown for his team-mates and with the club.

‘I wasn’t sure if he could do it physically but he’s showed that he’s done it physically so then it’s down to whether you want to do it or if you don’t.’

Aubameyang is out of contract at the club in 2021 and Arsenal are desperately trying to make him sign a new deal the club. While the Gunners are confident that the player will put pen on paper to a new deal but major sources claim that Auba might be heading to Barcelona next season if Arsenal fail to qualify for the Champions League.
