Barcelona have been pitted to play against Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals. And this will surely be the most high profile match in this round.

The second leg will be played on the 16th of April and the Man United fans were shocked when Barcelona announced that they would be charging £102 for a ticket from the away fans.

This was a steep rise from the usual amount that the United supporters have to pay when they hit the road. But thankfully Manchester United themselves came to the rescue.

Immediately after Barca announced their pricing, Man United confirmed that they too would be charging £102 for a ticket at Old Trafford out of which £27 pounds would be used to subsidise the tickets for the travelling Man United fans.

Man Utd sent a letter to their fans which read: “FC Barcelona confirmed our tickets for this game were to be priced at 102 pounds. In this instance, we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club.

“Similarly to Valencia in the group stages and Sevilla FC away last season, we have again taken the difficult decision to charge FC Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount that FC Barcelona are charging for the away fixture.

“We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the 27 pounds price difference for each of our travelling supporters.”

This acute rise in ticket prices has caught the attention of the whole footballing world and it has now forced Barcelona to come out with an explanation.

Barcelona made it clear that the cost of tickets for the Champions League games are in line with what they charge all clubs.

A spokesman for Barcelona told M.E.N. Sport: “We don’t increase prices because of the opposition, the prices are usual for this stage of the competition, not just because Manchester United are coming to Barcelona.

“It is the same price as in previous years and would be the same if it was Manchester City, Juventus, Liverpool, whoever they got.

“Barcelona are not making any different decisions because it’s Manchester United.”
