Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC signed Alla McGregor during the summer transfer window and since then the veteran keeper has been the No 1 chose for Gerrard.

The arrival of McGregor meant that Wes Foderingham has fallen out of favour at Rangers and the backup keeper could leave at the end of the season.

And keeping this in mind, the Gers are planning to make a move for Barrow keeper Andy Firth.

Firth is a youth academy product of Liverpool and Steven Gerrard knows him pretty well having previously worked with him at Anfield.

Andy Firth joined Barrow last summer on a free transfer from Liverpool and now it looks like Steven Gerrard is eager to bring him to Ibrox.

This season the keeper has played in 18 games for Barrow in the National League – conceding 25 goals.

Yes, his clean sheets tally is not pretty great but the Rangers boss feels that the 22-year-old has room for improvement.

Moreover, if he does arrive at Rangers this month then Andy Firth will be the third choice keeper behind McGregor and Foderingham.

And if Foderingham does move out of Ibrox during the summer transfer window then Andy Firth will only move up one step of the ladder.

Moving to Rangers this month will definitely kill a lot of game time for the youngster but then a shift from Barrow to Ibrox is most certainly a move up the ladder for him.
